Alateen is a recovery program for young people who are affected by problem drinkers. Every Alateen meeting is attended by two AMIAS (Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service). AMIAS are certified, as detailed in the “Alateen Safety Behavioral Requirements” developed by the Montana Area.

The Alateen certification process requires that all AMIAS documentation (including a background check) be reviewed and updated annually. This process is monitored by the Montana Area Alateen Coordinator. If a group does not keep documentation current, it is no longer a certified Alateen group, and it will not be listed here or on the WSO website.

Young people may be more comfortable in Alateen meetings, but are always welcome to attend Al-Anon meetings instead of, or in addition to, their Alateen meetings. As our 3rd Tradition states, “….The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.”
